"Teresa of Avila" – The Dance of Humility and Divine Joy

In this vibrant portrayal, Teresa of Avila radiates pure joy, her face lifted in ecstatic surrender. Clothed in warm golden hues, she is caught in a moment of movement, her robes swirling like flames—symbolizing the fire of divine love that burned within her. Her laughter echoes the freedom found in deep humility, a surrender to the presence of the Divine. The cracks in the background hint at the breaking of earthly constraints, while the descending dove represents the Holy Spirit, anointing her with wisdom and grace. This painting on a 36"x 24" gallery wrapped canvas was started by applying several layers of acrylic washes at first to achieve the desired visual depth. The final rendering was done with oil paint.
